Look, I love a good food adventure and when someone tells me we’re going to a pure vegetarian Indian restaurant, I’m genuinely curious about what’s on the menu. And then I went to Achyut Bhavan and walked away absolutely blown away. This place is something else entirely.
The South Indian Thali
We kicked things off with the South Indian Thali and this is where Achyut Bhavan just immediately lets you know it means business. We’re talking a full spread of sweet, poori, side dish, rice, sambar, rasam, special kuzhambu, poriyal, kootu, raitha, curd, appalam, and pickle. Every single item was authentic and packed with flavour, and the best part? Unlimited refills. Yes, unlimited. They just keep it coming and honestly that is both a blessing and a personal challenge that I accepted wholeheartedly. Every element on that thali tasted like it was made with real care and real knowledge of South Indian cooking. This alone is worth the trip.

The Mushroom Tikka and the Porotta
Next up was the Mushroom Tikka, which is marinated mushrooms grilled in a tandoor, and they were tender, smoky, and well spiced. Really good starter that set things up nicely for what was coming.
Then came the Porotta and okay, I have to be upfront here. I had never tried porotta before and I was not prepared for how good it was. It’s a South Indian fluffy layered bread served with mashed potatoes and curry, and the texture is unlike anything I had expected. Soft, flaky, slightly chewy in all the right ways. I kept going back for more without even realising it. If you haven’t tried porotta before, this is the place to have it for the first time. Achyut Bhavan, this is a wow!

The Szechwan Cheese Kati Roll
The Szechwan Cheese Kati Roll was a fun one. Packed with an incredible mix of flavours and loaded with cheese, this is the kind of dish where you take one bite and you’re like… okay, this works. The heat from the Szechwan sauce, the richness of the cheese, all wrapped up together. It sounds like it shouldn’t work as well as it does and yet here we are.

The Dosas — Oh, The Dosas
Okay this is where we need to slow down and give things their proper respect because Achyut Bhavan is clearly operating on a different level when it comes to dosas. They have a dedicated dosa master and you can absolutely taste the difference. This is not an exaggeration. Achyut Bhavan, best dosas in town!
We started with the Ghee Roast Dosa and honestly? Best dosa I’ve had in Bangkok. Full stop. It’s a long, thin rice and lentil crepe sprinkled with ghee, and it came out perfectly golden with this incredible crispiness that you just don’t find everywhere. The ghee adds this rich, nutty depth that makes the whole thing sing. I wasn’t expecting to be this impressed and then I was completely impressed.
Then there was the Jini Dosa, which is this month’s special item, something they rotate monthly that isn’t on the regular menu. This one was a really interesting fusion of vegetables, Indian spices, Szechwan sauce, and cheese all wrapped up in a dosa. It’s a creative mashup that somehow pulls all those flavours together into something that just works. The kind of dish that makes you want to come back every month just to see what they come up with next.
And then the Onion Dosa. Simple in concept, exceptional in execution. Thin, crispy rice and lentil crepe topped with onions, and it was so good I couldn’t put it down. Sometimes the straightforward dishes are the ones that really show what a kitchen is made of, and the onion dosa at Achyut Bhavan showed exactly that. Crispy, flavourful, and served with sambar and three varieties of chutney that rounded everything out perfectly.

The Falooda
We finished things off with a Falooda and look, after a South Indian culinary extravaganza like that, a falooda is not optional. It’s necessary. It’s the law. Cool, creamy, sweet, and refreshing, the perfect way to wrap up an outstanding meal and let everything settle in peace.
Bottom Line
Achyut Bhavan is a pure vegetarian restaurant doing things at a genuinely high level, and I’ll just come out and say it — this is one of, if not the best Indian restaurants in Bangkok. The food is authentic, full of flavour, and clearly made by people who really know and love South Indian cooking. The unlimited thali is a must, the dosas are the best in Bangkok as far as I’m concerned, and the porotta alone might change your life if you’ve never had it. They have locations in both Bangkok and Pattaya,e so wherever you are, find your nearest one and go. Tell them the falooda sent you. 🙌
